Creating a Community for the Southeastern Europe Web

Twitter_icon.jpg

Jobalizer is sponsoring the SEE Web conference by providing online services in the form of the Serbia Today website. The eventual goal will be to create a online educational website for Serbia in which entrepeneurs will be able to follow courses.

At the current moment the conference will be organized at the Euro Centar at Belgrade. For more information about this project please surf to www.serbia-today.com

The Serbia Today website functioned in the past as Serbia's first fully automated job database site with customers such as Telekom Srbija, Hudsons and others. The Serbian market is a volatile one due to the many reforms that are still taking place in Serbia. After the plug was pulled from the Serbia Today project in 2006 due to a lack of reveneus we are looking into the many claims that circulate on the internet today about the Serbian web. Many Serbian sites claim to have large numbers of visitors from Serbia and the provided numbers show a discrepancy with the number of internet connections in Serbia and the claimed amount of visitors.

If the Serbia Today conference, or SEE Web conference becomes a success in that it will take place this June, than there is room for an expansion of IT entrepeneurship in Serbia. In that light the endevour will proof if Serbia is ready E-commerce or not.

H2O Theme

The H2O theme is the theme that is currently being used on the site. We wiped the whole site clean of the old content and layout and are going to use the Zen, of which you can find more information at: http://www.csszengarden.com/

The H2O theme will soon be released under the GNU lisence. Now you might ask why Zen (besides that it sounds cool) and why under the GNU lisence? The answer is simple, first because we like clean designs especially when it comes to code. And second because we want to give something back to the Open Source Community.

So what will be so special about the H2O theme? Actually nothing, it will be just be clean and the download package will have the PSD files attached so people can change the images. We couldn't make it easier. After we are done with H2O we will release other layouts, most of them will be Zen based. If you want to help stay tuned, we requested a CVS account at Drupal so we can put it all there.

H2O contributing Open Source

We already did but now we take it one step further by developing a new theme for our site and sharing it with the rest of you! Most of our sites run on software like Drupal and Phorum, the best two scripts out there if you ask me. We have been for some time doing Open Source work but after some contemplating we decided it will be much more fun if we create a template, share it, but also port it to the other scripts we are using. As a sponsorship kind of thing.

The monthly amount of emails we get at some time is staggering. More than half of the quote requests are of people that have a running website with problems. It may vary from a html site, to a complete CMS database operating website. They want a quick fix, for a low price not realizing this attitude is exactly what got them into trouble in the first place. Running a sirious website costs money, unless you have a in-house coder you need to spend money on maintenance and proper development of modules. Downbelow is a short list of issues you should look after:

The server issue
Running a website required you to have a server, a good one. One that is running the latest stable versions of e.g. PHP and MySQL. Running older versions is asking for trouble. Keep it up to date. Sane and simple advice.

The script issue

The Price of Ignorance

How much should you pay for a premium Web site? If only there were a simple answer.
